If you are unsure whether prenatal classes can meet your needs, you have come to the right place! Our brand new childbirth curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the modern Canadian Family. Our classes are based on up-to-date information provided by authorities such as the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada, the Canadian Paediatric Society, and Health Canada.

At Family Doulas of Ottawa, we want your family to feel supported and informed as you take the next steps on your parenting journey.

Birth Basics

Our Birth Basics class is designed to take your from your last month of pregnancy right through to the first hours after baby’s arrival. This class covers:

- the last month - birth anatomy - signs and stages of labour - positions and pushing - comfort measures -the first hours after birth

Each family will receive a manual and resource book, including a provider-friendly birth plan template with your class. Private and semi-private classes are available.

Our classes are inclusive with a curriculum based on the Canadian healthcare system and our experiences as professional doulas in the Ottawa Gatineau region. Our curriculum is supportive of all choices, including interventions, pain relief, caesarean birth, scheduled parenting, and formula feeding. All topics are taught from a place of care and confidence - we don’t fear-monger or judge your choices. All information provided is evidence based and sourced from professional organizations and experts such as the Canadian Paediatric Society, Health Canada, and the World Health Organization.If there is a specific topic you would like addressed or expanded on, just let us know. We will customize your class to meet your specific needs.

 

Baby Basics

Whether you are confident with babies or this will be your first time holding a newborn, there is something in our Baby Basics class for you to learn. Our curriculum draws information from the most up-to-date sources and includes

normal newborn behaviour - the first week - breast/chest feeding - bottle feeding and formula - infant hygiene - soothing your baby - infant sleep - practical skills such as swaddling, burping, diaper changing, and more

Included in this three hour class is a printed manual and resource guide.
